If you are keen on helping to get waste pollution under control, it is 100% sure that you have come across the concept of a circular economy. A circular economy is viewed as one of the latest trends in curbing waste pollution.

The objective of a circular economy is to stress on the designing of products that are durable in nature so that immediate replacements are not required. The circular economy focuses extensively on ‘REUSE’ and ‘Recyclability’.

We are all well aware of the fact that we have finally stepped into the digital era. This only means that most interactions and transactions are now digitally driven with an emphasis on the use of electronics, like mobile phones, computers, laptops, and printers, to list a few.

All these electronic items eventually undergo wear and tear and depreciation, turning into e-waste and being deposited in landfills. As we all know, this form of waste does not decompose on its own, leading to rising heaps of waste.

This is where new trends in the waste reduction arena come into the picture and help recycle e-waste through take-back programs and recycling drives. This is now done in a systematic and progressive manner.

 

  • Tackling Food Waste:

Going by the recent statistics, 30% of food is wasted every year globally. This does not just come across as an alarming fact in times when hunger is a common social issue, but more so ever, it gets underlined due to its environmental implications.

All this, put together, leads to the creation of food waste and, thus, waste pollution. One of the recent breakthroughs in this regard is the introduction of “food donation campaigns,” which aim to connect excess food with hungry people. This means no throwing away of food, and thus no wastage.

Secondly, if grocery stores and restaurants focus on efficiently managing their inventory, it can help a lot in curbing the creation of food waste.

 

  • Waste to Energy Mechanisms:

Waste to Energy, also known as Energy from Waste mechanisms, is a newly introduced technique, which aims to convert non-recyclable waste into energy. The goal here is not just to tackle waste but, at the same time, to contribute to the ever-rising energy requirements from across the globe.

Different technologies have been put into practice to make conversion of this nature a reality. Some of the technologies that sit on the top of the list include Thermal treatment on Grate, Gasification, Pyrolysis, Rotary Kiln, and many more.

This, we believe, is one of the most effective and outcome-oriented ways of tackling waste.

 

  • Tapping on Blockchain Technology:

Last but not least comes blockchain technology, which for a while now has become the talk of the town. Blockchain plays a pivotal role in streamlining the supply chains and creating as much transparency as possible.

The goal here is to give recycling a boost while ensuring that the process of recycling is being carried out in an appropriate manner.
