The Global Push for Sustainable Transportation: Electric Vehicles and Beyond

Jun 15, 2023 Admin

In an era where climate change has become an undeniable reality, the world is undergoing a remarkable transformation in the way we envision transportation. The relentless pursuit of sustainable alternatives has given rise to a global movement focused on revolutionizing the way we move from point A to point B. At the forefront of this movement are electric vehicles (EVs), which have captured the imagination of governments, businesses, and individuals alike.

However, the push for sustainable transportation extends far beyond the realm of EVs, encompassing a wide range of innovative solutions and promising technologies. So, in this blog post today, we at the Tribhuvan College, one of the leading bsc environmental science colleges in Neemrana, will delve into the global drive for sustainable transportation. We will have a look at the immense potential of electric vehicles and explore the exciting prospects that lie beyond.

Million-Dollar Reasons to Turn Your Attention to Sustainable Transportation:

  • An Environment-Friendly Choice

Now that we have realized the negative influence that regular petrol/diesel vehicles tend to have on the planet, it is time to make an informed switch. What better way than to zero down on alternate fuel vehicles that constitute sustainable transportation!

These vehicles protect the planet by preventing harmful greenhouse gases from being emitted into the environment. One of the reasons this becomes possible is because alternate fuel vehicles run on fuels like ethanol, hydrogen, natural gas, propane, and biodiesel.  Additionally, these vehicles help conserve fuel consumption as well. It would be a wise switch, indeed!

  • Prevent Noise Pollution

If we go by the latest statistics, you will be surprised to know that about 100 million people reside in areas where traffic noise exceeds 55 dB. Needless to say, such exposure attracts an all-new set of bodily problems altogether. Hence, the need of the hour is to lay some significant steps towards curbing noise pollution. In this regard, electric vehicles come out as a clear winner when compared to their usual counterparts that run on petrol or diesel.

Isn’t this an equally effective reason for you to make a move towards sustainable transportation?

  • Help Optimize the Use of Renewable Sources of Energy

We all are well aware that regular vehicles depend largely on non-renewable sources of energy for their running. This in itself is another major threat.

We at the Tribhuvan College would like to draw your attention to the fact that Electric Vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and cell-powered hydrogen cars do not depend on non-renewal energy sources to get into action.

When using an electric vehicle, all that you need to do is find an electric charging station, get your vehicle charged, and get driving. Similarly, in the case of hybrids, you can rely partly on their electric power and partly on hydrogen.  In certain cases, part power can be that of fossil fuels, but even in that case, they are comparatively greener than traditional vehicles.

  • Using Eco-Friendly Materials for EV Parts

Speaking about how sustainable electric vehicles are, we cannot overlook the fact that the production process that goes behind putting together an electric vehicle is equally eco-friendly. This is definitely not the case with respect to the regular vehicles.

If you have a word with any of the electric vehicle manufacturers, you will realize that they depend heavily on feather-light yet strong and durable inputs to put together the EV. The ultimate objective here is to make the electric vehicle as lightweight as possible.

Are you wondering what the purpose behind making the EV lightweight is? Well, electric vehicles, which are lightweight, have a lesser range, which, in turn, help reduce carbon footprints. This is something that becomes next to unachievable in the case of traditional vehicles. However, the only problem most manufacturers are facing currently is to source recyclable and organic materials, something that should become addressable in the near future.

Conclusion:

We at the Tribhuvan College would like to draw your attention to an alarming statistic, which shows that in the year 2022, almost 7 million deaths occurred as a result of poor air quality.

This, for sure, calls for immediate action! After exploring the available alternatives, it can be concluded that sustainable transportation in the form of electric vehicles is the way ahead.

You will be happy to know that in the first quarter of 2023, 2.3 million electric vehicles have been sold globally. This number is expected to hit a whopping 14 million by the end of 2023. Not to miss, the hydrogen-run truck presented by Reliance at the India Energy Week, which would run on hydrogen with water and oxygen being its only emissions.

Things are happening. Change is definitely on its way. However, it is still high time for each one of us to contribute to the bigger purpose. Entering the greener vehicles club should work as a great starting point. If you have been thinking along these lines, but haven’t taken a call yet, now is the time to give that green signal.

We at the Tribhuvan College, a well-known bsc environmental science colleges have been attempting to spread awareness about environmental conservation and management for the past so many years. Today, through this blog post, we would like to urge you all to come forth and join the movement in whatever way you can. Let’s together make sustainable development a reality.
